« Exposition of Silence » - « Technical, Artistic and Sociocultural Accessibility of the Deaf » (July 8th, 2006)
The main motivation of this first international exposition is the desire to give the same opportunities of equality, freedom, autonomy and responsibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons in France and Europe. It is also a question of drawing attention of visitors, decision-makers and employers to the role of new technologies existing in the field of information and communication nowadays. The improvement of the Deaf's daily living must include access to this city's life. The introduction of new services will be able to lead to the creation of new training courses and new jobs. The expected exhibitors, from European countries that are advanced in this regard, such as Sweden, England, Belgium, or even the United States, will come to introduce their know-how beside the French firms in the fields of subtitling (captions), video-telephones, telecommunications, etc. This exposition will also be an opportunity to introduce the talents of deaf artists (dance, music, poetry, painting, sculpture, photography, audiovisual, craftsman, visual communication, etc.). about fifty to seventy-five booths will give international exhibitors a space for demonstration and sale of their artistic and technical activities. a stage of 6 m x 3 m will allow different participants to introduce, for all to see, their equipment, their art, their techniques of accessibility or their experiments, etc. This stage will be equipped with a big video screen, and with several systems of simultaneous translation, (real-time subtitling, Sign Language interpreters). Between two presentations, short skits or shows will be on stage: conferences, testimonials, demonstrations, poems, story-telling, etc. making this exposition more alive and entertaining. A space will be envisaged for thematic conferences. Near the reception, interpreters will be provided for exchanges between the deaf and hearing participants. In conclusion, the organization of this exposition will provide a broad variety of information adapted to the needs for the deaf and hearing individuals or professionals.
